Skiathos claims to have more than 60 beaches dotted around the island and it is renowned even among Greek islands for the quality of those stretches of sand.
Some beaches - the ones listed below - are easily reached on the local bus service along the south and west of the island's coast. Others, like Lalaria (pictured at the top of this page), can only be reached by boat excursion.
Some on the northern side of the island (not marked on the map above) can be reached along dirt tracks by walkers or those who have taken advantage of car hire.
But the main advantage of having beaches on all sides of Skiathos is that visitors can take advantage of the best-placed depending on weather conditions. In the Sporades the winds can get pretty strong, but whether they come from north or south, there's always a side that is more sheltered.

Megali Ammos Beach
Megali Ammos is the first of a stretch of beaches located on the southern
side of Skiathos and reached via the main road running along the coast
to the settlement of Ftelia. It is located about a kilometre outside
Skiathos Town.

The next beach down the coast, Vasilias is a quieter beach popular

Kanapitsa beach is named after the bay where it is located on the
peninsula at the southern tip of the island. Another attractive beach
on the bay is the one at Tzaneria.
